There was a significantly higher rate of dyschromia in the allograft versus xenograft group (23.8% vs. 7.79%; p = 0.01). Conclusions : Xenograft is an effective, cheaper, and more readily available alternative to allograft for temporary burn coverage and does not confer increased risk of aesthetic or functional deformity, nor does it negatively impact time to healing.
Bone graft helps heal bone by creating new bone (called de novo bone). There are many bone graft technologies that can help achieve this — and substantial differences among them. They work differently, and they are made from different materials. Common options for bone grafting include: Xenograft Tissue; Alloplast Bone Graft; Autograft Tissue
In humans, the morbidity rate associated with the collection of bone autograft is over 25%. Difference in vertical dimensional changes in xenograft and allograft groups as measured intra-operatively after extraction and at re- entry 6 months post extraction. Difference in histologic analysis of bone biopsy cores taken in xenograft and allograft groups at 6 months re-entry from osteotomy site. Cox regression showed gender, age and location were not significant factors Autograft (n 5 13), allograft (n 5 17), xenograft (n 5 19) Mixed pediatric and adult undergoing foot surgery Kaplan-Meier median incorporation time for nonxenografts was 16 wk and for xenografts was 57 wk Ledford et al, 2013 Case series Xenograft (n 5 13) Pediatrics undergoing foot surgery 7 complications associated The placement of dental implants in the posterior maxilla can sometimes be complicated due to the loss of bone below the maxillary sinuses. This is very common after maxillary molars have been lost or extracted and no bone preservation procedures provided at the time of extraction.

Not having to procure autograft reduces your surgery time and cost. And you avoid the potential morbidity associated with autograft procurement. The most common ways to obtain tissue are either to obtain the tissue from elsewhere within your body or to take that tissue from a donor. Tissue that is obtained from your own body is called autograft. When tissue is taken from a donor, it is called allograft.
